AFSCME Council 31 is one of Illinois' largest and most active unions, representing over 90,000 active and retired public service workers in some 290 affiliated local unions. Council 31 has a long tradition of democratic, progressive trade unionism and plays a key role in the Illinois labor movement, as well as in the state's political and legislative arenas. AFSCME members work in a wide range of occupations--including health care, criminal justice, clerical, maintenance, public works, human services and educational support.
Council 31 currently has an opening for an Attorney to litigate primarily at grievance arbitration and administrative proceedings, and to provide advice and legal counsel. The position involves extensive interaction with Council 31 staff members, local union leaders, and rank-and-file employees.
The ideal candidate for the position will have a background in labor and employment law and a strong commitment to the labor movement. Applicants with government, administrative law, and litigation experience will also be considered.
Position can be located in either Springfield or Chicago metropolitan area. Requires travel within the state of Illinois.
